Obtaining CUSIP/ISIN Identifiers
You will require one or more unique identifiers to be assigned when you issue new securities. PrivatePlacements.org can acquire these for you.
CUSIP is an acronym for "Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures". A CUSIP identifier is a 9-digit alphanumeric code that is assigned to a security issue approved for trading in the United States and Canada. Securities issuers license CUSIP identifiers from Standard & Poor's Corporation. They are permanent and are published on the face of a security certificate. A CUSIP number is built up from a 6-digit issuer identifier, a two digit security type, and a check-digit.
ISIN stands for International Securities Identification Number and is used outside of the US and Canada. It is 12 characters long, and performs a similar function to a CUSIP.
These unique numbers help market participants unambiguously indentify securities and ensure that securities transactions are correctly matched and settled. Additionally, a CUSIP or ISIN code is necessary to facilitate the proper application of dividends, interest, and other payments.
